Undergraduate Admissions Training program in September – October 2010 (five modules)

Module I: Wise selection, perfect match, generous funding
This module offers you the opportunity to learn the art of identifying study programs in the U.S. that match your academic, social, and financial needs. With around 4,000 U.S. higher education institutions to choose from, this interactive session will provide insights and tips for singling out American universities which can offer extensive financial aid to international students. The presenter will also detail effective strategies for establishing contact, make suggestions on how to market yourself to U.S. universities, and facilitate your access to a study program that will change your life and future.

Module II: Enhancing your undergraduate application package
This module focuses on the quantitative and qualitative components of a successful undergraduate application package that sheds full light on your academic and extracurricular strengths and makes your vibrant personality jump off the page. You will be provided with practical advice and examples on the effective management of the application package, as well as with suggestions for enhancing the application through competitive test scores. An eye-opening session that will help you put together an effective application package that will win over the admissions counselors.

Module III: “Your route to U.S. admissions, as successful Romanian applicants see it” (video session)
A colorful, informative and inspiring double video session that documents the successful approach to U.S. undergraduate admissions, as illustrated and spelled out by the actors: Romanian applicants admitted and funded by Amherst College, Hamilton College, Duke University, Harvard College, Yale University, Mt. Holyoke College, Occidental College, Jacobs University Bremen, and more. The first video provides an engaging introduction to the U.S. higher education system and its unique features, while the second one offers post-admissions insights and strategies for a successful application package. All enriched by stunning U.S. campus shots.

Module IV: The college essay that wins you admission
A balanced, comprehensive module that combines theoretical guidelines for writing your admissions essay with a selection of effective statements of purpose that won their authors presidential scholarships, despite unimpressive SAT scores or average school records. An excellent chance to learn more about the only element in the application package that you have full control of and can polish to perfection. Will you miss the opportunity to win the admissions officers’ heart with your powerful, insightful essay? Time permitting, we will also draw inspiration from a FEAC produced video on the admissions essay featuring Romanian students admitted and funded by top schools in the U.S.A.

Module V: Romanian undergraduate success stories
The final session of the Undergraduate Admissions Training program presents case studies of successful Romanian applicants, highlighting the main ingredients of their admission. With their authors’ permission, actual official transcripts, application forms, admissions essays, and recommendation letters will spell out the chemistry of their success. Time permitting, you will enjoy one more in-house produced video: “Romanian success stories of admissions and funding: Amherst College, Hamilton College, Occidental College, Duke University, and Yale University”. A perfect opportunity to learn about the Romanian students’ match with their schools and the generous financial aid it generated.
Graduate Admissions Training program in October – November 2010 (five modules)

Module I: Wise selection, perfect match, effective communication, full funding
This interactive session will cover the main criteria for selecting U.S. universities which nurture academic growth and offer financial aid to international graduate students. The presenter will share insights into the benefits of establishing effective contact with the study programs you are interested in, of marketing yourself and of developing a relationship with a prospective graduate supervisor. The session will also introduce you to the ideal timeframe of the application process and to the benefits of holistic evaluation for U.S. admissions purposes.

Module II: Enhancing your graduate application package
The second module will focus on the components of a successful application package. You will see what it takes to attract admissions and financial aid, learn strategies for perfecting your application, and discover behind-the-scenes admissions advice that has inspired and guided prospective Master’s, MBA and Ph.D. applicants over the years. As a result, participants in the Graduate Admissions Training program improved their application techniques and attracted generous financial aid offers from U.S. universities, thus broadening their academic and professional perspectives. Become admissions savvy and join their ranks by applying efficiently with FEAC support!

Module III: The golden rules of the graduate admissions essay/statement of purpose
A powerful graduate statement of purpose can tip the scales of your application to U.S. programs and enhance your chances of attracting admission and financial aid. Explore the most important qualitative element of the application package and discover its far-reaching impact on the graduate admissions decision. You will also have the opportunity to engage in practical activities highlighting competitive statements of purpose by Romanian students currently enrolled on graduate programs in the U.S. With FEAC support you too can craft an A+ statement of purpose!

Module IV: Romanian graduate success stories
This session will present a diverse collection of case studies of successful Romanian graduate applicants, highlighting the main ingredients of their achievement. With their authors’ permission, you will have access to their application packages, which spell out the chemistry of their success: strong academic background, good command of English, fine reasoning skills, strong writing abilities, and steady interest in their fields of study, all elements which you will need to document as well. Join us for this exploratory session to discover how your can set off your personal and professional strong points and put together a U.S. graduate application that wins you admission and financial aid.

Module V: “Inside Graduate Admissions: the admissions committee’s perspective” (video session)
We will change perspective in this session as we take a thorough look inside U.S. graduate admissions and the application process. You will benefit from the admissions committee’s insights into the admissions process and their tips on enhancing your application. You will learn how to make the most of each study program’s admissions requirements and expectations. A great video with tons of eye-opening information that will set the stage for discussions meant to clarify, expand, and recycle the information provided in the earlier modules. The best way to wrap up the training program and set you on your path to academic success in the U.S.!
