Graduate Studies

Q. Can FEAC help find the best program?

A. The FEAC staff will point the direction to the materials you have to go through when searching for a program. The FEAC staff cannot interfere in the search since you are the only person that knows what is best for you.

Q. Where do I find the best university rankings?

A. The US Government does not encourage you to look at rankings or to guide yourself after them. Please remember that no official rankings are available. All rankings that you may find online and in magazines are unofficial and usually put together by journalists. However, by looking at these rankings you may find some other interesting universities for you.

Q. How do I find the best university for me?

A. When searching for a university, you should first consider your priorities. Maybe you have family in the US and you might like to be close to them, what kind of a campus you would like, maybe you don’t want to be in a mixed university, or maybe you would like to be where there are more Romanian students, and so on.

Q. Where do I find the US universities that have a master’s program that I’m interested in?

A. You can find information on US university programs in the books that can be found at FEAC.

Q. Can FEAC help me with my application package?

A. FEAC can explain to you some of the things that might be unclear to you and guide you during that period, however, filling the forms and sending all the documents is up to you.

Q. What are the Group Advising Sessions?

A. The Group Advising Sessions are split in two: one session is for the Undergraduate level and the other one is for the Graduate level. The sessions are free or charge and any person interested in studying in the US can participate. However there are a limited number of seats. During the sessions you will be educated about the steps that you must take in order to apply to a university in the US.

Q. Will the information I get at the Group Advising Session be enough for me?

A. Being divided into more sessions, these modules are going to cover all the steps that need to be taken when applying for graduate studies and also show you some success stories. If you feel that the Group Advising Session was not enough for you, you can always apply for Individual Advising.

Q. What is the Individual Advising Session?

A. The Individual Advising Session usually follows after the Group Advising Session. During this session you will get the chance to talk to the adviser one-on-one and ask some particular questions that you have about your application. The Individual Advising Session lasts for 30 minutes and every individual can ask for no more than one session.

Q. Can FEAC read my statement of purpose and comment on it or help me improve it?

A. Yes, the FEAC staff can read your statement of purpose and comment on it. Because of the great number of essays and statement of purposes we get we will kindly ask you to send it to us at least one month before your first deadline.

Q. Do I have to send all the documents in the application package at the same time or I can just send them one-by-one?

A. It would be best to send all documents at the same time. Still, whatever you will send in advance will be stored and the application package will be put together once everything in it has reached the university.

A. The F1 visa is issued in conjunction with the length of your study program and will cover the whole study period.

A. Yes. The F1 visa gives you permission to be in the USA for study purposes.

Q. If I am in the USA on the J1 visa with the Study Work and Travel program, or on a Fulbright scholarship, or on B1 visa as a tourist, can I get an F1 visa if I decide I want to enroll independently at a school in the USA?

A. The US Consulate recommends that you apply for change of status – that is a change in visa type – in your country of residence.

Q. What does it take to get an F1 visa?

A. First you need an I-20 from the university in the US which has admitted you. This document shows what program you will be studying, the cost of the program and how you will be covering these costs, as well as the length of the program. Then you need to pay the visa application fee. Detailed information is available at http://bucharest.usembassy.gov/Visas/Student.html.
