Fulbright Science and Technology Award is for PhD study at top U.S. higher education institutions in the fields of science, technology or engineering. The award is designed to be among the most prestigious international scholarships in science and technology. Each year, approximately 25 awards will be offered worldwide, from 27 countries, for competing candidates who demonstrate unique aptitude and innovation in scientific fields.


ELIGIBILITY:
  • have Romanian citizenship
  • hold a university degree before May 1, the year of the competition
  • be proficient in English with a recent ibt TOEFL score (or equivalent) of 92 or higher (interviews will be conducted in English; TOEFL and GRE General/ GRE Subject will be required along the selection process).



THE COMPLETE APPLICATION PACKAGE includes a clearly written research objective, a professional resume, three letters of reference and supporting documentation such as certified university transcripts and graduation diploma, English language test scores (when available), GRE general and GRE subject exam test scores (when available). The supporting documents must be accompanied by complete official English translations.


THE DURATION OF FULBRIGHT GRANTS is generally 36 months. After three years, U.S. universities will be expected to cover the remaining expenses toward completion of a Ph.D.


ELIGIBLE FIELDS INCLUDE:
AERONAUTICS AND ASTRONOMICS/AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING, ASTRONOMY/PLANETARY SCIENCES, BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, COMPUTER SCIENCES/ENGINEERING, ENGINEERING (ELECTRICAL, CHEMICAL, CIVIL, MECHANICAL, OCEAN, AND PETROLEUM), ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE/ENGINEERING, GEOLOGY/EARTH AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES, INFORMATION SCIENCES/ENGINEERING, MATERIALS SCIENCE/ENGINEERING, MATHEMATICS, NEUROSCIENCE/BRAIN AND COGNITIVE SCIENCES, OCEANOGRAPHY, AND PHYSICS.


EVALUATION PROCEDURE
(Note: files which are not complete or are not postmarked by deadline will not be considered.) After national selection, final nominations are reviewed in the United States by independent review committees. These review committees make recommendations to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Awards are announced by September 30 each year for the Fellowships beginning in October. Only short listed candidates will be notified.


NOTE: When the competition is opened, it will be advertised in the NEWS section of this website. If it is not advertised in News, check TIMELINE for general dates of competition. Application packages will not be considered if they are postmarked after the deadline of the competition.
