News on Ioana Turcan’s Recent Achievements in the Field of Film

Ioana Turcan is a first year MFA candidate at the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Syracuse University, NY, where she attends a graduate program in Film Studies as a Fulbright Student grantee. During her BA studies at Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj, Ioana had filmed a short fiction named Tempo which she finalized this past semester while studying in the USA. Tempo was selected for the International Student Film Festival FFeST in Cluj Napoca as well as for Imphal International Short Film Festival in India. In addition, Ioana’s short film entitled Crafted, made entirely at Syracuse University, competed for the same festival in Cluj Napoca, in the experimental section.
“It is very important for a young artist to have the means to create and push his ideas towards another genre or medium. Having here the studios and highly developed devices can be very handy and lets your imagination fly. You learn so much by just practicing what you know and experiment in another direction. Crafted is a personal short not only because of its subject but because I was able to discover myself and realize I can do something totally different that challenged my boundaries in the audio-visual field.”
Another great achievement of Ioana’s was the movie Brick in the Wall premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, within Panorama section, this November. Ioana was the cinematographer of this documentary made in 2013 during Aristoteles Workshop and won the Award for the Best Documentary within the same workshop. The documentary was also nominated for Gopo Awards within the short documentary section and for the Jury Award at the International Student Film Festival FFeST, 2013, in Cluj Napoca.
