Season's Greetings

Cezar Ghioca, former Fulbright researcher in musical theatre at Kent State University and artistic director at "Revue Theatre Constantin Tanase" in Bucharest, is directing and performing in “American Night Dream”, a special show featuring two other Fulbrighters: Dr. Calvin Andre McClinton, Fulbright Scholar in Romania back in 1999-2000 and Romanian Fulbright alumna and actress Ana Pasti.
The event will take place on December 18, from 8 p.m. at Elisabeta Theatre (45 Elisabeta Boulevard).

Bookbinding Workshop @FEAC

On Friday, December 12, Jamie Beth Weaver, Fulbright ETA and talented interdisciplinary artist, offered us a delightful introduction to bookbinding through an arts & crafts workshop held at the Fulbright Educational Advising Center. Jamie gave us an overview of the art and patiently guided us through the process of making a handmade book. By the end of the workshop, each of the 8 lucky participants – mainly students and arts & crafts enthusiasts - could proudly present their own “drum leaf” book, a perfect Christmas gift for a loved one, and all voiced their hope for a repeat.
Many thanks to Jamie for kindly agreeing to initiate us into the art of bookbinding! You can see more of Jamie Beth Weaver’s impressive work on her website: http://jamiebweaver.wordpress.com/.

U.S. Alumni Annual Meeting

On Friday, December 12, the Romanian-US Alumni Association, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, organized the U.S. Alumni Annual Networking Meeting. Humphrey, Ron Brown, New Century Scholars, Benjamin Franklin Summer Institute, Young Leaders Dialogue with America and ”Study of the U.S.” Institutes. The special guest of the meeting was Marjorie Stern, Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy. The chamber orchestra of the “Dinu Lipatti” National College of Arts offered an inspiring concert.

U.S. Fulbright Grantee’s Project on Quality Criteria in Teacher Education

Friday, December 5, 2014, Luisa-Maria Rosu presented her Fulbright project “Investigations of Quality Criteria in Teacher Education programs” to the faculty members in the department of the Psychology and Educational Studies at the University of Bucharest. The following up conversations specifically focused on the espoused values in the implicit and explicit quality criteria used by educational researchers in Romania. The discussion of both USA and Romania educational contexts illustrated how initiating conversations about representations of quality criteria, particularly to identify criteria for judging the quality of teacher education programs and practices in both countries are critical to expose the narratives of power and enforce the role higher education has in promoting necessary social transformations and change.
